Class 4 2021 - 2022

Mrs Williams

Hello Class 4!

I am Mrs Williams and, as I’m sure you know, I will be your new teacher next week. If you’ve forgotten what I look like or you’re not sure who I am, here is a picture of me from my summer holiday in Keswick (on a very windy day).

No description available.

Firstly, let me tell you how much I am looking forward to getting to know you all when you start on Monday 6th September. Mrs Keegan and Miss Cleary have been telling me all about you and I know we’re going to have a fantastic year. I know some of you will be nervous about having a new teacher and having a new mixture of children in your class, but we will have lots of fun getting to know one another. All I ask of the children in my class is that they try their best with their learning and are kind to other people.

Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. I live with my husband in Rainhill. He is a church minister so we are often in church. We have two grown up children who also used to go to Kirkby CofE. This will be my 20th year working at KCE. When I’m not at school, I really enjoy reading, going for walks, gardening and playing the clarinet.

I love teaching Class 4 as we learn about some fantastic topics this year. I’m sure you’ll love learning about the Romans. Another of my favourite lessons is music as I get to teach Year 3 children the recorder. Another reason I love teaching Class 4 is because it is a big year for times tables… we will have lots of exciting competitions and challenges for you to get involved with!

Our teaching assistant is Miss White. Miss White is wonderful and will greet you every day with a big smile and cheery hello! She grew up in Kirkby so knows the area well. She has a dog called Rosie and I’m sure you’ll be hearing lots about her little adventures. Like me, Miss White enjoys being crafty and is always making lovely things. She is also a keen reader and we are both always on the lookout for good book recommendations!

I am really looking forward to getting to know you and I can't wait to find out all about your favourite things, what you’re good at, what you’re interested in and who your friends are. If you have any worries or questions about Class 4 though, please let me know.

Well everyone, enjoy the last of the summer holidays.Remember to bring in the postcards you were given if you can. It will be nice to see what you got up to during the holidays.

I am looking forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday, 6th September.

Mrs Williams

Below are a few points

that may help you and your parents.

I will also be providing you with more information

as and when necesaary.

Welcome to Class 4

The Class 4 teacher is Mrs Williams and the teaching assistant is Miss White. We're also lucky to have specialist provision in certain subjects: Mr Nicholas teaches cornets/music appreciation to Y4 on Thursday afternoons. Mrs Smith will be teaching Class 4 on Wednesday mornings.

Class 4 will consist of 23 children from Lower Key Stage 2: a  mix of Year 3 and Year 4 children. It is an exciting stage where children learn to become more independent and begin to learn a musical instrument and a foreign language.

Key Information

Times: Class 4's doors will be open from 8.40am to 8.50am to faciltate an easy staggered entry. Children can be collected from 3.10pm to 3.20pm. Please queue up outside the classroom, maintaining social distancing and wear a face mask if you feel more comfortable doing so. Children will be called to the door in the order that parents are queuing so thank you for your patience in this.

Homework will be set for each Friday but we will endeavour to get it out on Thursday if time permits. This is to be returned on the following Monday or Tuesday please. If you have any questions about the homework, please don't hesitate to ask. In addition, the children are asked to practise their spellings and times tables for a weekly test.

Spellings will be sent out each Monday to be tested the following Monday. It is vital that your child practises their spellings each week as the words given are expected to be used in context in their written work. Daily practise is the key.

Tables are very important in Key Stage 2 (Year 4 children are expected to be completely fluent in all tables by summer). Children will be having weekly tables tests every Friday so please encourage children to learn and practise their quick recall of facts. The children at KCE will be using Times Table Rockstars- a fun, online computer program where they can take part in multiplication battles with friends and staff to reach "Rock Hero" status. Every child should have already been give login and password details for and these are the same for this year.

Reading books and diaries will be sent home and should be filled in to show children's progress. Each child is responsible for bringing in their reading book and giving them to Miss White so she can change them when needed. Children should be reading and enjoying books on a daily basis.

PE will be on Tuesday (indoor) and Thursday (outdoor) and we will continue with the practice of children coming in to school in their PE kits on those days. PE kits consist of a plain white tshirt, black or blue shorts and plain pumps/trainers. Please ensure that each item in your child's kit is labelled. If the weather is cold, childen can wear the new school tracksuit or plain dark tracksuit bottoms and a jacket. No jewellery allowed for health and safety reasons.

Water bottles should be labelled and have only plain water in. No juice or fizzy drinks please.

If you need to speak urgently to Mrs Williams or Miss White, a brief message can be given in the morning or at the end of the school day. If you need more time, please let the office know and they will be able to make an appointment for you at a suitable time. This is very likely to be a telephone consulatation given the current situation.

Mrs Williams is very much looking forward to working with the children in Class 4 and sharing in their development and success.
