Home Learning w/b 22.3.21

Hi to our Home Learners!

We hope you're staying safe and well at home. Here's the work for this week, please get in touch if you would like more... wink

Maths

Maths this week is more about decimal numbers. As last week, make sure you watch each video carefully and pause when they tell you to work on each set of questions. On Friday we'd like you to have a go at another Year 6 Arithmetic SATs paper on the myminimaths website. Have a go at as many of the questions as you can, there's 40 in all. If you explore the rest of the website you'll find videos which tell you how to do each of the questions. Over the next few weeks we'll take a look at these too. Remember to keep up with your Times Table Rockstars. cool

Monday Divide 1-digit by 10

Tuesday - Divide 2-digits by 10

Wednesday - Hundredths

Thursday - Hundredths as decimals

Friday - Try this arithmetic test!

Spellings

Your spellings for this week are the following 9 words: guard, height, queue, straight, weird, strength, weight, threw, choose. There's a file at the bottom of the page with some activities included. In the first one, there's a set of random letters and amongst them you should be able to find each word 2 times in order. In the second one the words have been jumbled up for you to match and all the other ones are self-explanatory. The words may seem easy but it's a way to catch-up on your missed spellings so make sure you can spell them all correctly before we move on to the next set next week.

Grammar

Let's see how well you uplevelled the sentences last week by using those skills to expand some basic 3-word sentences. The first one is simply An owl hooted. How could you add to this sentence to improve it? Remember to use adjectives and adverbs, as well as adding further information. Use last week's PowerPoint to remind yourself about how to use Fronted Adverbials and Subordinate Clauses to improve them.

Science

We are starting early on a new topic on Light ahead of next half term. Use this link to find your first lesson and try your best to join in with the investigation. The very best way to learn about anything to do with Science is to do an experiment or investigation yourself so have a go!

History

This will be our last lesson of our topic on WW2. We'd like you to work your way through this video-led lesson  from Oak Academy and try to answer the questions. Don't worry too much about the initial quiz about what you have learned so far, as we haven't covered all the lessons in this particular online unit. Next half term we will be starting a new topic so if you have time, why not make a poster to show what you have learnt in this one?

Music

This week's music lesson involves comparing You've Got A Friend with another song written by Carole King, Up On The Roof. The song was recorded by one of the first 'boy bands', The Drifters, in 1962. Think about the similarities and differences between the 2 songs. Watch the lovely video of the signed version of You've Got A Friend and join in to sing and sign along.

RE

This week in RE we are looking at how Jesus was and still is often called The Messiah. The main part of this week's lesson involves listening to a really powerful piece of classical music by Handel. Then have a think about the points raised on the attached RE lesson file.

This Friday we break up for the Easter holidays! We hope you all have a wonderful break and enjoy the spring sunshine and Easter goodies. We look forward to seeing you all back in school for the start of our final term on Monday 12th April.
