Monday

Phonics – Write the letter y on a piece of paper.  Think of 4 words that begin with the letter ‘y’.  Draw one of those things and label it. 

Complete the circle the ‘y’ sound sheet attached below.

Power of Reading (Literacy) Invite the children to share what they know about penguins and also note anything they would like to find out about penguins.  Have they ever seen a real penguin, perhaps in a zoo? Can they think of a story with penguins in?

Maths – How many different ways can we count to 10? Can you jump 10 times? Find 10 objects in your house? Count 10 on your fingers forward and back? Write number 10?
Extra Challenge – How many different ways can you make 10?

Tuesday 

Phonics – Write the letter z on a piece of paper.   Complete the Circle the things that begin with ‘z’ sound sheet attached below. Draw something that begins with z and label it. 

Power of Reading (Literacy) Look at the picture of the Blue Penguin. What do you notice about this penguin? - How would you describe him? - Is he like other penguins? How? - Who do you think his friends might be?

Maths – Either print off dominoes sheet, or make some using your own on paper.  Use dominoes to play ‘who has more’. Turn over a domino each.  Children count spots on domino, player with most spots gets a point.

Wednesday 

Phonics - Click on the link (or copy and paste into google search) to play ‘Dragons Den’. Press the button ‘Revise all phase 2 sounds’. Can you segment and blend the sounds on the eggs to read the word? Is it a ‘real’ word or is it a ‘nonsense’ word?

Listen from the beginning to ‘A Blue Penguin is not something you see every day’, ‘ I feel like a penguin’. Ask the children to show you how Blue Penguin is feeling using their faces and their bodies to demonstrate the emotion and collect some words to describe his feelings.

Maths – Using dominoes from yesterday, share out the dominoes.  Place one in the middle.  Can you match the spots to another domino from your pile.  Continue until the first player has used all their dominoes.

Thursday 

Phonics –  Write the letters qu on a piece of paper. Draw a picture of something with qu sound and label it.  Examples include quick, quiet, quack. Challenge: qu worksheet attached

Maths – Get out and about and find numbers in their environment.  Look at door signs, buses, car registrations, speed signs and more.  Record some of the numbers seen.
