Monday

 

Phonics –  We are going to recap on sounds learnt last term but reading and writing the sounds.  This week we will look at ch, sh, th, ng.  Ask your child to read the following sentences. 

  • The shirt is red.
  • That bag is pink.

 

Sound out the words for your child to hear and then try to write.  For example, The sh-ir-t  i-s  r-e-d.  It is not important if words aren’t spelt correctly, but they write sounds they hear. Encourage and praise their writing and hearing and recognising the sounds.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) – Continue the story ‘Farmer Duck’ from last week. Describe the farmer, i.e. lazy. Think of some questions you could ask the farmer if you met him, for example, why is he so lazy?

 

Maths – Look at the animals in Farmer duck.  Sort the animals into smallest to largest and draw them in size order.

 

Tuesday

 

Phonics Repeat Mondays session with the following sentences.

  • I had chips.
  • Chess is fun.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) Look at pictures of different animals in story.  Write a sentence about your favourite animal and draw a picture of it.

 

Maths – Look at your family.  Sort the people in your family from smallest in height to largest.  Draw them in the size order.

 

Wednesday

 

Phonics – Repeat Mondays session with the following sentences.

•       The king is in bed.

•       The ring is green.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) – Re-read ‘Farmer Duck’. Ask children questions on their opinions of the book, how they felt reading the story, did they like the story and why, can they remember each animal?

 

Maths – Draw around your foot and another family member’s foot.  Cut out the feet.  Who has the biggest foot?  Who has the smallest foot?  How big is the foot? How do you know?

 

Thursday – World Book Day

 

Phonics – Repeat Mondays session with the following sentences.

  • The man is at the shop
  • The shell is smooth.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) World book day!  Get your favourite book and read it with your family all cosied up on the couch.

 

Maths – Find 5 different books in your house and order them in height size order.  Which book is the smallest?

 

Friday

 

Phonics – Go over the tricky words song from last term.  Can you write the following…. I, no, she, into, the, all?

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) – Make a bookmark and decorate with your favourite book characters.  (use a strip of paper or card)

 

Maths – Treasure hunt.  Find 2 small objects, 2 medium size objects and 2 large objects from around the house.  Can you put them all in a line in the correct size order?
