1.6.20

Hi everybody

I hope you're all doing ok and have enjoyed your half-term break! The weather has been gorgeous, hasn't it? Definitely need sun tan lotion on in this weather!

Here’s a summary of your work for this week:

Maths: you will continue to work on fractions in maths

English: all work is related to this week's First News (a comprehension, crossword and a mystery news puzzle)

   PHSE: Kindness and art

I've tried to hyperlink all the sites you need to visit and any work you need to do so just hover your finger over text to see if it's highlighted or not. Please click on each of the images or hyperlinks to open the files or alternatively, download the links at the end of this message.

MATHS:

Y4= fractions (You’re 2/4 way through this topic)

Look at week 6 White Rose Maths/ BBC for the relevant video links and activities. We recommend using White Rose as it's what we've been using in class so the children are used to it and they also have accompanying worksheets which we've downloaded for you. (Click on downloads the bottom of the page) They do 4 daily worksheets and then a challenge on Fridays. BBC are following the same timetable and have good introductory videos that may help explain the topic so feel free to check them out if it's useful.

(If you need a little bit of revision, start out looking at Y3 lessons first)

Y3 White Rose Maths  Download Y3 worksheets below (see Y3 BBC Maths for useful videos)

Y4 White Rose Maths  Download Y4 worksheets below (see Y4 BBC Maths for useful videos)

(I know some of you are using Carol Vorderman’s The Maths Factor site and if you’d prefer to carry on with that, that's OK.)

ENGLISH

Y4: First News reading comprehensioncrossword and mystery news puzzle.

Feel free to read more/all of this fantastis newspaper that is written just for children like yourself. If you get stuck, read it together with an adult or older brother or sister.

And try reading other books (or comics, fanzine, infact anything) for at least 20 minutes each day. There's nothing to stop you from reading more!!

Additional daily work ("IF" wanted):

Y3 BBC Daily English (look at Y3 page first if you need a bit of revision then have a go at Y4)

    Y4 BBC Daily English

HANDWRITING
Practise your handwriting.

Look at https://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/cursive-joins-choice-3.html

to see the video clips on how to form letters and joins correctly. Practise the letters you struggle with the most. Hint: the ones I nagged you about!!

SPELLING

Keep practising your spellings. Click here to see the list of all statutory words children in Y4 should know. Try to concentrate on these words please.

FUN & GAMES

 Times Table Rock Stars

Mrs Williams has set up tournaments between all of the Lower Key Stage 2 classes. Which class will win? Get practising and notch up those points. I can see that most of you have been on TTRockstars but I can also see a few of you have been missing out on the fun way to learn your tables. PHSE

Try to follow this week's kindness calendar.

It's all about ways to be kind using art. How good is that? How creative and kind can you be this week?

Have fun and work hard.

Please let me know if you are running out of supplies i.e. pens, pencils, work books and we will try to get things to you ASAP. Likewise, if you have any other needs, please email me at [email protected] and I'll do my best to help.

We miss you all so very much and are so proud of every single one of you.

Take care and remember to keep washing your hands!

Mrs Cashman
