Monday

 

Phonics – Can you write your name?  Do you know the letter names and letter sounds of your name? Can you remember the actions to the sounds?

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) – Role play.  Re-enacting the scene of Blue Penguin catching the fish, or Blue penguin showing the other penguins that he is real. Discuss/act out the character’s thoughts or speech in role.

 

Maths – Listen and join in to the shape song.  Can you recognise the name of the shapes?  Go on a hunt around the house and look for those shapes?  Can you draw around any of the objects and name the shape?

Tuesday

 

Phonics – Play Follow the Leader with your family. One person chooses some body percussion, (for example patting their knees, clapping their hands or clicking their fingers), the rest of the family have to copy them. Take turns to be the leader.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) Look at the drawing of one of the Blue penguin and a penguin.   Discuss the similarities and differences.

   

Maths – Listen and join in with the shape song again from Monday session.  Can you draw a picture using shapes? See example below.

Story time- Powerpoint ‘Lost Penguin’ attached.  Read the story to your child.  Questions on the book can be done on Thursday.

 

Wednesday

 

Phonics – Listen to some music at home with your family.  Can you clap along to the beat?

Listen to the story from the beginning up to: In this dream a beautiful white whale came and rescued Blue Penguin and took him away from his lonely place.

Where would Blue Penguin want to go? What would be there?  Who would be there?  What would he do there?

 

Maths – Open the Powerpoint ‘Name the shape home learning’ to identify the shape. Colour one of the 2D shape pictures attached or make your own picture. See example below.

Thursday

 

Phonics –  Use your voice to make sounds like a car, a dog, a ghost, a train and bubbles under water.

 

Power of Reading (Literacy) Invite the children to draw connections with their own experiences, for example who are your children’s friends?  What do they like to play together?  What might Blue Penguin and Little Penguin play now they are friends?

 

Maths – Give number cards to 5 (write on paper or print off ordering templates of 10) to the children.  Can they put the numbers in the correct order?  Shuffle around and try again.  Hide a number from the correct sequence.  What number is missing?  How do you know? Repeat with dots to 5.

Phonics – Teach everyone at home the ‘Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake, Baker’s man’ rhyme and show them how to clap their hands together to the beat.

Maths – Attached is a Lady Bug counting dots to print off and cut in half.  (Alternatively draw your own dots on paper plates or paper).  Match two halves of the lady bug / two sets of dots that total 5. How many different ways can you make 5?
