Summer Reading Challenge 2020 – ‘Silly Squad’

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is called ‘Silly Squad’. It’s open to children from 4 – 11 years old. The Challenge is simple: to read five or more library books over the summer. Every child completing the challenge will receive a certificate and medal.

If you go to, you can sign up for the challenge. You then pick an avatar, discover awesome books to read, play games to earn points and more, and unlock badges through the challenge. You can read online books, comics, or other books that you already have at home.

Or, if you would like to get books from the library to complete your challenge, from 27th July, Kirkby Library will be offering a ‘Select & Collect’ service. If your parent or carer rings the library, gives your age and what type of books you are interested in, they will then get a selection of books, along with a Summer Reading Challenge pack, ready for you to collect. They will give you a date and time to collect your books at the library door. Easy peasy!

Library opening times are:

Monday, Tuesday and Friday: 10.00am – 5.00pm

Wednesday: Closed

Thursday: 10.00am – 1.00pm

Saturday:10.00am – 1.00pm

I hope that lots of children will get involved. Please email me photos of the children taking part and I will post them on the school's website ( Or, if you let me know what books your child has enjoyed reading and why (or even ones they've not enjoyed, and why), I will put this information on the website.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing lots of certificates and medals in September!
