Celebrate VE Day

All children across the UK will join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am on Friday 8th May, the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, and pause for a Two Minute Silence. It has been designated by the Government as a Bank Holiday, for you to join in the VE Day 75 celebrations, so we do hope that you will take part over the VE Day weekend of the 8th – 10th May 2020.  This is an opportunity to pay your personal tribute to those millions at home and abroad who gave so much to ensure we all enjoy the freedom we share today. I hope that we can all support this aspect of VE Day from the safety of our homes too.

I would suggest a creative way to celebrate would be through role play. Your children can celebrate the history and story of how the King and Queen joined in with the people of Britain to celebrate the arrival of peace in Europe. Did you know ......as part of the official celebrations in 1945, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth made eight appearances on the Palace balcony in ten hours - on one occasion accompanied by Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Things to do...... (Activity for boy or girl) Make a crown for a King or Queen, make a cape or a robe (even from your dressing gown), use Mummy's jewellery to wear and maybe even finish it off with a pair of gloves. Ask your parents to bow or curtsy as you role play being royality. They could even be servants for the day. Being a servant means you have helpers to do anything for you! So instead of you putting away your toys you could say, “Servant, can please put away my toys.” Or, “Servant, can you put the sauce on my dinner plate please.” Parents you can encourage your children to participate in this fun role play. I am sure you will have lots of laughter.
