Welcome to Reading at Kirkby C of E
At Kirkby C of E Primary School, we are committed to developing confident, fluent and enthusiastic readers. In the early years and Key Stage 1, we use Read Write Inc. (RWI) to provide children with a strong foundation in phonics, decoding and reading fluency. As children move into Key Stage 2, we build on these skills through Ready Steady Read Comprehension, supporting pupils to develop a deeper understanding of what they read. Our children are taught to look beyond the words on the page, developing their skills in inference and deduction, while continuing to strengthen their vocabulary, retrieval and overall comprehension. Through this carefully structured approach, we aim to inspire a love of reading and equip every child with the skills and confidence to become a successful lifelong reader.
