Maths – From last term, gather your 3d shapes again. Sort the shapes into groups, for example those with curved edges.  Why put these shapes together? Is there another way we can sort them? For example those with 6 sides. Which shapes are best for stacking, which are best for the top, which are not good for making towers?

Tuesday

Phonics – We are going to recap on sounds learnt last term but reading and writing the sounds.  This week we will look at y, z, j, qu.  Ask your child to read the following sentences.

  • A duck goes quack!
  • A zebra licks jam.

Sound out the words for your child to hear and then try to write.  For example d-u-ck  g-o-s  qu-a-ck.  It is not important if words aren’t spelt correctly i.e. goes, but they write sounds they hear g-o-s. Encourage and praise their writing and hearing and recognising the sounds.

Power of Reading (Literacy) – Look the picture below of a duck working on a farm.  Who is the main character?  Where is the story set?  What words describe the duck or setting for example, field, muddy, white duck?
