Home Learning Week Beginning 18.5.20

Hi Class 9,

I hope you are all well. Below are your tasks for this week.

Please remember, do not feel obliged to complete all work set. You have lots to work with and I know being the dedicated children that you are, you are doing your best. These are just additional pieces of work that can be completed at your own leisure. Any questions or problems please do not hesitate to contact me.

Maths Task

This week, your focus is rectilinear shapes that have the same area.

Area is the amount of space inside a 2D shape.

Remember, you can calculate area of rectilinear shapes by counting the squares (if provided) or by multiplying the length by the height e.g. 7cm x 3cm = 21cm²

Tip: Don’t forget those units e.g. Inches, cm, metres etc.

English Task

Michael Rosen is a very famous children’s author and poet. He wrote the brilliant ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ in 1989. At Kirkby CE, the teachers often use his poems to inspire children to write their own. Sadly in March this year, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent time in intensive care. Thankfully, he is recovering but it is a long and difficult road.

He wrote the famous poem, ‘These are the hands’ on the 60th anniversary of the NHS to highlight the great work that it does.

Can you write a poem in a similar style to Michael’s ‘These are the hands’ highlighting what your hands get up to?

Write it on your own or as a family.

Do they build lego, wave goodbye, tie shoe laces or even pick your nose?

Read it aloud as a performance poem and keep improving it all the time.

Topic Task

In 1509, Henry VIII became King of England. His father had left him lots of money and he wanted to be the greatest King England ever had.

Henry, was 18 when he became King. He loved music, dancing and playing sports, like jousting and archery.

Here is a link to BBC Bitesize, please have a look at the videos and information on here and create a fact file that tells people everything about Henry VIII that they need to know.

I have also attached some information sheets below that will also help you.
