English

This week I would like both Year 1 and Year 2 to have a go at the VE Day reading comprehension. You will need to read the text about VE Day and answer the questions. I would like you to write the answers in full sentences, remembering capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Remember to read the text very carefully and lf you’re not sure about an answer, go back and read it again. Do not make it up!!

I have attached the reading comprehension task at the bottom of this page. Please see separate tasks for Year 1 and Year 2.

Maths

I would like you to access your maths tasks via White Rose Maths. The links below will take you to separate tasks for both Year 1 and Year 2. Please go to Summer Term – Week 3 (W/C 4th May). Each day there is a short video lesson provided and a follow up task to complete. I understand not everybody has a printer and therefore do not expect you to print the follow up task each day. Please complete on a piece of paper or in your learning log and email a picture to me.

Year 1

This week you will be learning about number bonds, fact families, addition and subtraction.

Year 2

Maths Challenge

Each day I will post a Maths Challenge for both year groups to have a go at. It is a challenge, therefore it will be tricky. Try to use all of your mathematical knowledge and skills to help you. If you need to draw pictures or use your own items to make counters etc. please do that.

Please see 'Maths Problem of the Day' below.

Topic

This Friday 8th May is VE Day and it is a bank holiday. Do you know what that means? If we were in school, we would get an extra day off! However, we are already at home spending lots of time with our families. This year it is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Do you know anything about VE Day Maybe you could ask some people in your family to tell you what they know about it? I have also uploaded a PowerPoint below with some information about VE Day. Have a look.

Why not try one of these activities:-

I know lots of you have been drawing rainbows to put in your window to say Thank You to our wonderful NHS staff. Can you make a ‘Thank You Soldiers’ poster to put in your window to? This will show that we are also grateful for all of the sacrifices the soldiers have made and are still making today.

Make your own Union Jack bunting or poster to hang in your window or around your house. I have attached a template below that you could use or copy it out. Do you remember when we coloured in the Union Jack flag when we were learning about the United Kingdom? Do you remember what colours you will need? That’s right, red, white and blue.

As it is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day why not look at the number 75! You could draw it, paint it, colour it in, write it in chalk in your back garden, count out 75 objects, exercise for 75 seconds or look out for the house number 75 when out on a daily walk. What else could you do with the number 75?
