Class 4 Home Learning week beginning 4.5.2020

Hi Class 4 and Class 6,

This week, we've tried to make your home learning all about VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) which we're celebrating on Friday. It's a special 75th anniversary this year to celebrate the end of fighting in Europe towards the end of World War 2.

Here's how you can mark VE Day 75th anniversary with a stay at ...

Your work includes:

  • Reading a PPT about children in the war and discussing how evacuees might have felt. How is it similar or different to what children are facing today during this time away from school?
  • Comprehension on VE Day. Y3 do 1 star sheets. Y4 do 2 star sheets.
  • Maths problems on rationing and wartime theme
  • Design Technology: wartime recipes

Do them in whichever order you want to.

The BBC are doing daily Maths and English lessons online and we think they do it quite well so please try them out. If you want (or need) a bit of structure to your week and home learning, it has videos that explain key concepts and worksheets for you to test your skills out.

  • Year 3, click here for daily maths lessons.
  • Year 4, click here for daily maths lessons.

The BBC site also does links to other lessons which you are welcome to look at. Remember though, we don't want to over burden you. Do what you can.

Please keep practising your times tables on the TTRockstars game and remember to challenge your teacher to a Rockslam if you dare. Let us know if you've misplaced your login details. Remember you can use the same login details for NumBots too. There are FREE apps your parents can download from Apple Store and Google Play Store so you can play TTRockstars and NumBots wherever you like: the lounge, the bedroom, the back garden or even the garden shed.

We've also included a new kindness calendar for week beginning Monday 4th May. This week’s theme is all about showing kindness through food as people often say "the way to the heart is through the stomach". So we thought it would be especially good as we've set you some work on rationing and challenged you to follow instructions and make some of the food from the wartime recipe book. Could you make something extra special for VE Day on Friday? Take photos of your work and creations and send them to your class techer at [email protected] or [email protected] and we'll upload them to your Home Learning gallery page.

And last but not least, have a go at reading First News. It's a fantastic newspaper written just for children. Adults can read it too though and Mrs Williams does when she's in a rush but don't tell anyone!!

Hope you enjoy this week's work. Any problems, please email your class teacher and we'll be happy to help.

Take care

Mrs Williams & Mrs Cashman xx
