Couch to 5k

Hi everybody

I hope you're all safe and well.

My news is that I've started the Couch to 5k, where, in 9 weeks, you go from not running at all, to running for 5 kilometres, or for 30 minutes. I was inspired by Mrs O'Hare, who ran 200 kilometres in May, to raise money for a charity that's close to her heart.

So, I've downloaded the BBC Couch to 5k app and made a start. You can choose a celebrity to talk to you while you're doing your walk/run. I chose a lady called Sarah Millican (she's a Geordie, so she has an accent like Ant and Dec!). She tells me to keep going and how well I'm doing. There's also a bell that rings after 15 minutes to tell me I'm half way through. It's like having someone with you while you're doing your exercise.

At the moment, I am walking for 90 seconds and running for 60 seconds, then repeating this pattern. I'm really enjoying it and ran a grand total of 24 minutes last week (90 minutes exercise altogether).

I'll start Week 2 tomorrow and can't wait! I want to do it today really, but you have to have a day's rest in between runs. sad

I've also been carrying on practising my piano (but not as much as I should!) Lots of us have been doing things during lockdown that we wouldn't usually do! This will be Mr Mawson's face when he finds out I've started running: surprisePlease let me know what you've been up to (and send photos for the website too). We'd love to see and share them.

Anyway, bye for now and take care.

Mrs Cashman x
