Child Protection Statement of Commitment

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for the purposes of this guidance as:
• Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge
• protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online
• preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
• ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
• taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
Children includes everyone under the age of 18.
 (DfE September 2025)

At Kirkby CE Primary, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils and expect all staff, governors, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment.

We provide a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where children feel secure, valued, and confident to speak out if they are worried. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and follow clear procedures to ensure concerns are identified and acted upon promptly.

We recognise that:

  • the welfare of children is paramount in all the work we do and in all the decisions we take all children, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse.
  • some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues.
  • working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.

Our school and staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. As such, the Child Protection Policy applies to all within our school community and all policies produced.
