Phonics - Guide for Parents
PLEASE NOTE THAT FROM 7TH MARCH 2022 WE WILL START THE TRANSITION TO THE 'READ WRITE INC'PHONICS SCHEME - MORE GUIDENCE TO FOLLOW.
After feedback from our parents around helping children at home with phonics - we hope that this page will help you! We have recorded a short session where the children are 'segmenting' and 'blending' a word to write. Look at the video below to watch.
The children are using 'phoneme frames' to help split up the sounds for writing. A 'phoneme' is the word for oral sounds and a 'grapheme' is the word for written sounds. The number of boxes in the phoneme frame indicate the number of sounds in the word. The children are adding 'sound buttons' below each grapheme which helps to segment the sounds for blending.
Aross EYFS and KS1 at Kirkby C of E we use the letter formation rhymes from the 'Read Write Inc' scheme as seen below. All children have a copy of these in thier orange folders. The rhymes help children with forming letters correctly and ensuring they start each letter from the correct point.
