Ask a grown up to find you 20 socks. Pair them up and practise counting them in 2's.

Look at the picture carefully.
Think about these questions and answer them in your workbooks.

Phase 5 – new sound ‘wh’
‘wh’ can make a couple of different sounds but today we’re going to look at it making the sound ‘w’.
‘wh’ always comes at the start of a word – ‘w’ can come at the start, middle or end.

First, open the Tricky Words powerpoint attached. Read through all of the Phase 2, 3 and 4 words that we have learnt so far.
This week we are going to look at the Phase 5 tricky words. Have a go at reading each of these words. Remember they are tricky words so you can't sound them out and they don't follow the rules, you just have to learn them.

Read through the information about Jellyfish in the powerpoint below.
Use some of your favourite facts to design a factfile about these amazing sea creatures. You can either use the factfile template in the files below or simply set out your information in your workbooks.
Write a question (your subtitle) then answer that question using true facts underneath. Remember to use full sentences, finger spaces, capital letters and full stops or question marks.
Don't forget to draw and label a picture for extra information. Try adding a fun fact also!

Write each word in a sentence.
Make sure you begin with a capital letter, end with a full stop and leave spaces between your words.
Don’t worry too much about correct spellings of other words but try to increase your independence.

Spellings
Today have some fun 'candy writing'. Wash your hands first, then use Skittles, M&Ms or Smarties, to write your words. To do this, dip your treat into a small saucer of water then use your sweet treat like a pen to write each word on a piece of white paper. Try with a few different colours. Which worked best? If you did well ask your grown ups if you can eat some of the spare treats. Enjoy!

HISTORY - Transport and the History of Vehicles
This half term our History topic is ‘Significant People’. We will be teaching this through a transportation and vehicles topic, looking at significant individuals throughout history whose engineering, designs and inventions helped to shape the way we travel today.

NEW WORD - Transportation is moving someone or something to another place, you can use different vehicles to do this. For example, you could get on a train in Kirkby and get off the train in Liverpool, the train has transported you to another place.

NEW WORD – Timeline is a list of important events placed in the order in which they happened.
TASK 1: Can you remember which vehicles were invented first? Place them in the correct order on the ‘Transportation Timeline’ attached below. The dates have been entered for you, cut out the vehicle and stick it in the box underneath the correct date. Watch the video again if you need to.
TASK 2: Look at the ‘Old and New Vehicles Pictures’ attached below, look at the differences between the old vehicle and the new vehicle. Talk to an adult and tell them what you noticed.

We have finished our topic 'Place value within 50'

ENGLISH - Handwriting
We follow a scheme called ‘Teach Handwriting’ and we teach the children a small group of letters at a time. The children are familiar with all of these but need to practise their letter formations as often as possible.
This week we will concentrate on the letters u, y and j.
- Click here and go to the ‘Curves to Start – Cursive Letters’ section. Please select the letters u, y and j to watch the short demonstration that will show you how the letter is formed (start at the top).
- Practise writing out the letters using the handwriting sheet attached at the bottom of the page. If you cannot print off the sheet then practise writing out the letters in your home workbooks. Remember to make sure your letters are all the same size!
- Challenge: How many words can you think of that begin with each of these letters?

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - Vehicles
Our Design and Technology topic this half term is ‘Vehicles’ and it links to our History topic of ‘Significant People and Transportation’.
Your task for the next two weeks is to design and make your own 3D vehicle model!
There is a ‘Vehicle Design Booklet’ attached below that you need to complete. If you cannot print it off then write/draw in your home learning booklet instead. Do not rush this work, please take your time over the two weeks and do what you can as and when you have the time.
Take a look at these pictures. There are lots of examples here of different 3D vehicle models that you could make. Think about the materials that you will need. What materials have you got at home that you could use? Cereal boxes and tissue boxes make a great sturdy base. How will you join sections together? Masking tape works well.
